Hi again, friends, for another day of #SouthernSummerFun. I wanted to briefly point you in the directions of these wonderful resources for outdoor recreation supplies & education. Both REI & Bass Pro Shops provide a plethora of options for learning and engaging in outdoor recreation and, of course, purchasing your supplies. But, today, I want to point out two cool totally free programs for families.
First up, REI’s Family Adventure Program & Journal. The journal, which can be printed out here or picked up at a local REI store, helps kids learn how to record their adventures. Using easy prompts, the journal asks kids to sketch something they saw during their adventures, asks them where they went & who came with, makes them take notice of weather conditions & helps them list interesting things they saw & heard along the way. The journal also helps them learn what to pack for a hike & is chock full of kid fun like word searches and other puzzles. Visit the corresponding, “Family Adventures,” website to get helpful tips & tricks along with ideas and directions to local recreation. Download & Print REI Family Adventure Journal | Visit REI Family Adventure Website
Now, moving on to Bass Pro Shops for a great way to spend the day when you need to get out of the heat or rain. The annual free event, Family Summer Camp, begins June 7th & runs through July 13th for 2014. The event is held at participating Bass Pro Shops all around the country and families will enjoy a variety of nature & recreation education and fun from Backyard Nature to Camping, Safety, Fishing and other opportunities. Plus, if you go at the right time you’ll enjoy sampling some good old fashioned homemade ice cream! You can find the full schedule of events, here at “This Mommy Saves Money.”
