10 Free Georgia Nature Trails for Family Biking

Family Nature Trails for Biking in GeorgiaToday’s #SouthernSummerFun is actually a continuation of yesterday’s 20 Free Nature Centers & Preserves around Georgia. Family biking has become one of our favorite activities. But, not all trails are made for biking. Here are some easy Georgia mountain biking trails to enjoy, with your family, for free! Many of them are located at Nature Centers, Preserves and WMAs that also offer other ways to connect with Mother Earth.

Listed by city in alphabetical order, you can click the links to learn more about each location.

Acworth – Allatoona Creek Mountain Bike Park
Allatoona Creek is one of our favorites. You’ll find trails for many difficulty levels, here. In fact, the long flat path that leads to the different mountain biking loops is perfect for even the least experienced bikers. The, “Rusty Bucket,” loop is one of my 10 yr old’s most frequented trails and provides a good sampling of beginner mountain biking. There are also some longer, intermediate trails, “Turtleback,” and “Mason’s Bridge.”

Atlanta – Morningside Nature Preserve

Canton – Blankets Creek Mountain Bike Park
This is another of our family’s frequented mountain biking parks. Blankets Creek provides a variety of trails for beginners thru intermediate & advanced. So, it’s a great place to get started and advance as you gain skill. At the beginning of the trail, there is a skills practice area with technical obstacles like board crossings, small rock gardens and small jumps. When you advance to the beginner trail, Mosquito Flats, you’ll ride a family-friendly scenic trail alongside the creek. The continuation of this trail, Mosquito Bite Loop, has a creek crossing & a couple wooden structures.

There is not necessarily any specifically designated mountain biking trails at Chestatee. But, the unpaved roads winding through the forest is a great place to have a fun bike ride. There are also several waterfalls to be found in the area, lots of hiking and even primitive camping. This is a very beautiful, scenic area and you may also enjoy wading in the streams.
